Improve "Alternative names" edit

Could we add pseudonym (P742) automatically to "Alternative names" using {{name|pseudonym|<value of pseudonym (P742)>}}? Thanks in advance for any work on it! --Marsupium (talk) 13:35, 2 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

More than one date edit

There is a bug concerning lifespan dates in the title cell. If Wikidata holds more than one date the lifespan date in the title cell can depend on the order of the dates on Wikidata, an example from Creator:Vito D'Anna:

  • 4 October 1718 / 14 October 1718 / 1720 --> "1718" (I think)
  • 4 October 1718 / 1720 / 14 October 1718 --> ""

I leave this here as a note for myself or anyone else to work on in the future. Best, --Marsupium (talk) 09:07, 21 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

- I think that, in most cases, this should be resolved on Wikidata. Overthere it is clearly marked when conflicting data are undesired. This is not just about lifespan dates. In most cases, there is a most reliable datum or a (reliable) more precise datum. But sometimes it might be difficult to decide. But then the discussion, for what is displayed on an infobox on Commons, better take place on Wikidata, because we are here on Commons for pictures etc. and our facts are on Wikidata.
(By the way, i do understand that in some contentious cases, it is sometimes difficult to get to agree various language-versions of Wikipedia to agree on "facts", however Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons should be independent of language and should keep a global perspective, and if unavoidable, discussion can take place on Wikidata.)

Incorrect "Description" information edit

There is an issue in how the Creator template shows information in the "Description" section. Two examples:

Creator:Ivan Padalka <-- wikidata:Q12137432
Here the Creator template says "Russian-Soviet painter and graphic artist". Where does the Creator template get this incorrect information from? The "Description" in WikiData correctly says: "Ukrainian painter and graphic artist" - why doesn't the Creator template mirror this? Trying to override this by manually inserting the correct information directly in the Creator template fails, as the incorrect information predominates.
Creator:Ivan Yizhakevych <-- wikidata:Q4198157
Here the Creator template says "Russian-Soviet painter". Where does the Creator template get this incorrect information from? The "Description" in WikiData correctly says: "Ukrainian painter" - why doesn't the Creator template mirror this? Similarly, trying to override this by manually inserting the correct information directly in the Creator template fails. --Very trivial (talk) 00:54, 11 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Changing template content on Wikidata, obscure text edit

The paragraph "Changing template content on Wikidata" starts with incomprehensible text.

After trying to read, i get the impression that the intended message was something like this ː

" If this 'Creator template' starts with a block with the Wikidata logo [], then this creator template is connected to the corresponding Wikidata-item and the information displayed in this template is taken from Wikidata. If you think that it is necessary to change the information, you can click the logo in the template above and modify it from there. See below for the table of which Wikidata properties are used by Module:Creator to construct the infobox. " Paulbe (talk) 00:43, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
That sounds less accurate to me. The current text means that it’s possible to override the Wikidata information on Commons – see, for instance, the customized work location on Creator:Paul Cézanne. This is missing from your suggested rewrite. (I’ve slightly adjusted the text now, does that help?) Lucas Werkmeister (talk) 15:53, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Documentation appears where the template is included edit

However in the template code the documentation template is put between <noinclude></noinclude> it appears where the template is included as I noticed looking at Creator:Stefan Zweig --Agloforto (talk) 23:22, 24 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

This is intended behavior. This template {{Creator}} uses Module:Creator. That module outputs the contents of Template:Creator/documentation (which is the documentation on how to configure Creator entries in Creator namespace) and potentially some diagnostic error messages about the contents or wikidata issues, but only when {{Creator}} is used in Creator namespace or in demo mode (such as the template page itself). The documentation from Template:Creator/doc (which is the documentation for the template) is only shown when the template is not included (i.e. at Template:Creator, not in Creator namespace). —RP88 (talk) 23:44, 24 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Return to "Creator" page.
