827-831 Broadway, between East 12th and 13th Streets in Manhattan, New York City, near Union Square, are two Italianate marble buildings, the facades for which were used as models for later cast-iron buildings. They were built in 1866-7 for tobacco scion Pierre Lorillard and were designed by Griffith Thomas. No. 831 was later the site of artists' studio used by Abstract Expressionist painters, including Willem de Kooning, Elaine de Kooning, Paul Jenkins, Larry Poons, and Jules Olitski, as well as the curator William S.
