Category:A Peep at the Gas Lights in Pall-Mall

English: The drawing shows men and women walking along Pall Mall, amazed at the sight of a new type of lighting. Coal gas began to be used to light shops and factories in 1802. A German called Winsor raised £50,000 in 1807 to light this street in a failed speculation. The lighting is of the 'triple flame' type, called 'cockspur'. The background shows columns built for the Prince Regent.
