English: Aylmer is a former city in Quebec, Canada. It became a sector of the City of Gatineau on January 1, 2002. Located on the Ottawa River and Route 148 it is a part of the National Capital Region. The population in 2006 was 41 882 — approx. 16% of Gatineau. It is named after Lord Aylmer, who was a Governor General of British North America and a Lieutenant Governor of Lower Canada from 1830 to 1835. It remains primarily a suburb of Ottawa.
Français : Aylmer est une ancienne ville de l' Outaouais incorporée en 1847. Nommée en l'honneur de Matthew Whitworth-Aylmer (1775–1850), Gouverneur général de l'Amérique du Nord britannique et lieutenant-gouverneur du Bas-Canada, de 1830 à 1835. Le premier maire, (1811–1857), est élu le 21 septembre 1847.
