English: Barrage balloons were large balloons tethered with metal cables, used to defend against low-level attack by aircraft by damaging the aircraft on collision with the cables, or at least making the attacker's approach more difficult. Some versions carried small explosive charges that would be pulled up against the aircraft to ensure its destruction.

日本語: 阻塞気球は金属索によって係留された大型の気球で低空で進攻する航空機に対して金属索によって損害を与えたり、より進攻を困難にさせる事に使用される。索が引っ張られることにより爆発する仕掛けの小規模の爆発物を搭載することで航空機の破壊をより確実にする形式もあった。単純な仕掛けではあったが攻撃目標に対して迂回させたり高高度からの攻撃を余儀なくされた為、被弾率を下げる等、一定の効果はあった。
