Construction of the Royal Stables and Riding Hall located towards the south western of Saint George's Square, started between 1847-1848 under Archduke Stephen, Palatine of Hungary, completed in the 1850s. These buildings served as storage, general yard area. Hauszman built a new riding hall between 1898 and 1900 to north of the summer stables and bounded by a riding field. After it the old stables and riding hall served only as a reserve facility. The new riding hall was longger (about 50%) than predecessor, although the actual hippodrome was similar in size, excellent daylight was provided by parallel sets of seven windows toward east and west. The war (WWII) destroyed its roof and it is demolished in 1950. (Source: Hauszman Plan information board, located Savoyai Square)
