Graduate of Edinburgh Medical College for Women in 1903, she provided services during the Messina Earthquake in Italy, 1908 and with the Italian Red Cross. She was a war correspondent during the Balkan War of 1912-13, and held the rank of surgeon in the Montenegro army.ref
