English: The Silves Castle it is located in the city of the same name, in the region of Algarve, in southern Portugal. The islamic defense system of Silves was composed of two major elements: the castle itself, that was known as kasbah, and the three walls around the settlement, forming an almedina (fortified city). These consisted of the main walls, than an outer curtain wall that protected the areas not encircled by the first, and finally a third one that defended an access road to the Arade river.
