Category:Church of the Immaculate Conception, San Diego, California

English: The Church of the Immaculate Conception at 2540 San Diego Avenue at Twiggs Street in the Old Town neighborhood of San Diego, California was established as a parish in 1849, near the place where Fr. Junípero Serra celebrated his first Mass in California on July 2, 1769. Masses were held in parishioners' homes at first, until a chapel, now known as the Old Adobe Chapel, was built in 1858. The cornerstone of the current church was laid in 1868, but it was not completed until July 1917. The church was dedicated on July 6, 1919. In 1998, the church was seismically retrofitted and re-dedicated.
