Category:Coat of arms of the Borough of Birmingham

The coat of arms of the new borough of Birmingham which came into existence in 1838 was informally created from the arms of two ancient de Birmingham families and never approved by the College of Arms.

When Birmingham became a city in 1889 formal arms were requested and an ermine fess and mural crown were added and supporters granted. The arms were changed again in 1974 when Sutton Coldfield was incorporatd into the city.
