English: In architecture, a cul-de-lampe is a corbel (or console) consisting of a projecting stone that supports: the base of a column, the spring of an arch, the ribs of a vault, or a statue.
  • Its shape recalls the underside of a sanctuary lamp, hence its name (which in French literally translates as "bottom of lamp").
