Category:David Johnson House

Constructed in 1853 and expanded in 1891, this house at 423 North Carroll Street in Madison, Wisconsin, was originally built for David Johnson, who lived in the Italianate-style portion of the house now at the northwest. This was extended to the southeast in 1891 with a new Queen Anne-style wing featuring a front tower. The original portion of the house has a painted sandstone exterior with a low-slope hipped roof, windows with decorative stone headers and stone sills, and an off-center front door. The addition features a painted brick exterior, a stone base, a two-story bay window with a hipped roof, stone lintels and sills, and a rear gable roof. The house also features eaves with exposed rafter tails, a front porch with clustered slender columns and a cornice with details, and multiple hipped dormers.

The house is a contributing structure in the Mansion Hill Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
