Description:Euromaidan was a protest movement in Ukraine in winter 2013-2014. It began in Kyiv on November 21, 2013 with a demonstration in support of the integration with the European Union. Protesters established permanent presence at Kyiv's central plaza — Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square). Protests started with peaceful rallies, demonstrations, marches, and acts of civil disobedience. Later they included picketing and seizing of governmental and public buildings, erecting street barricades, and rioting. Euromaidan culminated on February 22, 2014 when President Yanukovych left Kyiv and parliamentary opposition backed by protesters in the streets took control of Verkhovna Rada. Protesters declared that they would stay on Maidan Nezalezhnost until the early presidential elections on May 25, 2014.
