Italiano: La cosiddetta Flora Farnese è una statua colossale facente parte della Collezione Farnese, oggi conservata nel Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli (inv. 6409). E' una creazione classicistica di epoca romana che si rifà a prototipi greci di V sec. a.C., ma che si data al II sec. d.C. per la cintura annodata ai fianchi che era una moda romana di quell'epoca. Straordinaria è la resa del corpo armonico e dalle movenze sinuose coperto da una veste sottile quasi trasparente che vi aderisce come se fosse bagnata. La statua originaria rappresentava Afrodite, ma è stata integrata nell'Ottocento nella testa e nel suo braccio sinistro interpretandola come Flora. Tradizionalmente vien detto che la statua sia stata rinvenuta a Roma alle Terme di Caracalla, cosa non possibile poiché esiste un disegno di M. van Heemskerck (attivo a Roma tra il 1532 e il 1536) che la ritrae non ancora restaurata, mentre gli scavi alle Terme di Caracalla sono cominciati solo nel 1545.
English: The so-called Flora Farnese is a colossal statue belonging to the Farnese Collection, now preserved in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (inv. 6409). It is a classicistic creation of the Roman era that refers to Greek prototypes of the 5th century. BC, but which dates back to the second century. A.D. for the belt knotted at the hips which was a Roman fashion of that time. Extraordinary is the rendering of the harmonious body and sinuous movements covered by a thin, almost transparent dress that adheres to it as if it were wet. The original statue represented Aphrodite, but it was integrated into her head and left arm in the 19th century, interpreting it as Flora. Traditionally it is said that the statue was found in Rome at the Baths of Caracalla, which is not possible since there is a drawing by M. van Heemskerck (active in Rome between 1532 and 1536) which portrays it not yet restored, while the excavations at the Baths of Caracalla only began in 1545.
