English: Flugplatz Spreitenbach, 1917 - 1969
  • 1917 to 1922 : An auxiliary airfield was opened in the en:Dietikon-Spreitenbach area, as an airfield for external and emergency landings was still needed at the Dübendorf military airfield. In addition, the en:Schweizerische Wagons- und Aufzügefabrik AG Schlieren-Zürich (SWS) began building its own aircraft nearby, which were intended for the Swiss Air Force, and so the first successful flight of the en:SWS C-1 and later the C-2 took place from this auxiliary airfield in mid-1918 out of. It was used for training courses for aspiring pilots until 1922.
  • 1923 to 1930 : military parking area for old aircraft and occasionaly use as a sheep pasture. In 1930 there were five Nieuport N-28 C-1 Bébé fighter planes at the Spreitenbach airfield.
  • 1931 : the military authorized the Zurich gliding group to use it.
  • 1939 to 1945 : During the war the airfield was used again by the military.
  • 1945 : the airfield was divided into a glider and a motorized airstrip. In addition to flying lessons, sightseeing flights with Piper Cubs and Fairchild aircraft were also offered.
  • 1948 : The Spreitenbach airfield received a 'new' hangar, which was dismantled at the de:Hilfikon-Brunnmatte airfield, which was closed in 1939. The Hilfikon airfield was the first Swiss private airfield and was set up in 1923 by the silk merchant Hermann Nabholz and initially served not only private pilots, but also the military.
  • 1969 : With the increasing traffic at en:Kloten Airport, orderly traffic became increasingly difficult as the airfield was in the departure path of the western runway of Kloten Airport. Furthermore, due to the increasing aircraft noise pollution, the local population increasingly lost their enthusiasm for their airfield. This existed until 1969, when it had to make way for the SBB marshalling yard (de:Rangierbahnhof Limmattal). In addition to the other two, the old Hilfiker hangar was also demolished with an unknown fate.
