English: The former Hawaiian Islands National Wildlife Refuge — now the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument — protects the marine and terrestrial habitats of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.
- The Hawaiian Islands NWR was designated in 1909 by President Theodore Roosevelt.
- The refuge/marine national monument includes these islands and reefs: Nihoa, Necker, French Frigate Shoals, Gardner Pinnacles, Maro Reef, Laysan, Lisianski, Pearl, and Hermes Reef.
