Category:Independent Brewery, Seattle

The Independent Brewery was built by the Independent Brewing Co. in 1902 in South Seattle, then just outside of the city limits. Robertson & Blackwell were the architects. It was owned by prominent local brewers Samuel Loeb[1], Herman Klaber and Ben Moyses. Klaber would later go down with the Titanic in 1912.[2]

After prohibition the building became a can factory for the fishing industry and by the 1930s it was remodeled into a factory for Sunny Jim brand peanut butter, the most popular brand in Seattle for several decades. The complex had been abandoned since the early 1990s and was destroyed by fire caused by squatters in 2010.
