  • The Indian Empire arrived at Auckland in 1862. She was a vessel of 1314 tons, built at Quebec in 1860. She sailed from the Downs with immigrants on the 4th July, and after a tedious passage of eleven days down the Channel experienced moderate weather throughout the passage, arriving at Auckland on the October 26, 1862, making the passage in 107 days from the Downs and 96 from the Lizard.
  • In 1883 another clipper ship named Indian Empire, a vessel of 1515 tons, built in 1865 by Pile, at West Hartlepool, and owned by John Duncan, was despatched from London with cabin passengers only, for Dunedin, under Captain Watson. She sailed from Gravesend on March 2, and arrived at Port Chalmers on June 2, 1883, after an uneventful passage of 87 days, land to land.
