English: Joseph Octave Dion (1838-1916) was a journalist and advocate for the preservation of historic sites in Canada. Born in Chambly, he moved to Montreal at the age of 18 to pursue journalism. Returning to Chambly in 1866, he was soon thereafter instrumental in the fundraising for and creation of a statue in Chambly honouring Charles de Salaberry. He persuaded the federal government to restore Fort Chambly, which had been abandoned by British troops in 1851. He sought to protect the historic legacy of New France and became one of the first heritage conservationists in the country.
