Category:Katzenkopf style radios

Katzenkopf (cat's head) style radio, a trademark Telefunken styling from the early 1930s (in particular, the 1931-32 model year). The name specifically refers to the tuning dial arrangement with four diagonal "ears" and two dial windows in the side "cheeks". Typicaly, the katzenkopf radio was packaged in a compact, low bakelite enclosure; larger wooden "cathedral" cabinets are quite rare. The circuit is a TRF (tuned resonant frequency) with two independent tuning knobs and respectively two tuning dials. As soon as the superheterodyne circuit took over the market, the dual-dial arrangement was retired as obsolete.
