The original Los Angeles Newsboys' Home (later renamed the Lark Ellen Home for Boys, in honor of the singer Ellen Beach Yaw, one of its principal patrons) was established in 1890 in a suite of rooms on Main St in downtown Los Angeles. The location changed several times over the years, and in 1923–1924 it moved to a new building designed by the architect John Frauenfelder in the Sawtelle district of West Los Angeles. It remained there through the Second World War, but sometime between 1945 and 1951 it moved again to Azusa in the San Gabriel Valley.
