The Massachusetts State College was the second name given to the University of Massachusetts. The institution was changed from the Massachusetts Agricultural College to Massachusetts State at the end of president Edward Lewis's tenure in 1927. Though this period only lasted two decades and with it two presidents, the college underwent many important changes during this time.
