English: In the sacramental law of sacred places, an oratory is a structure other than a parish church, set aside by ecclesiastical authority for prayer and the celebration of Mass.
Note: the words "veldkapel", "wegkapel" or "kapel" in Dutch are somewhat ambiguous; they encompass several types of buildings and structures.
Not all wayside chapels are oratories. An oratory is typically at least a little bigger (sometimes a lot bigger) than the average "veldkapel" wayside chapel.

Nederlands: Een oratorium is in de Rooms-Katholieke Kerk een bidkapel, een gebouw voor gebed en meestal ook misbediening zonder dat het een parochiekerk is. Oratorium betekent gebedsruimte, naar het Latijnse orare, bidden. Let op: er is dus een verschil met veldkappelen; niet alle veldkapellen, ook niet degene waar men een kleine ruimte heeft om binnen te treden, vallen onder 'oratoria'.

A small building in Dutch often called "veldkapel". The chapels in this category at least have some shelter or a door that, if unlocked, a person could theoretically enter.

A small structure called a "chapel" that looks like a building but that a person cannot possibly enter, and therefore it's a shrine rather than a chapel.
