English: Information board at the entrance: “Old Cemetery. (Protected as a monument, R.D. 24 October 1995). This cemetery was put into use in 1787 after the abolition of the cemeteries within the city. It is completely walled in and has a wrought-iron entrance gate between four chequered bluestone pillars, the two outer ones of which are still original. Apart from the tomb of the writer Anton Bergmann of 1874, there are several remarkable tombstones designed by well-known architects such as E. Careels (sarcophagus of the Verberckt-Eyskens family) and J.B. Van Bouchout (tomb of the Avontroodt and Vos families).”

Nederlands: "Oud Kerkhof", Begraafpark Mechelsepoort. (Beschermd als monument, K.B. 24 oktober 1995). Dit kerkhof werd in 1787 in gebruik genomen na de afschaffing van de begraafplaatsen binnen de stad. Het is volledig ommuurd en heeft een smeedijzeren toegangspoort tussen vier geblokte arduinen pijlers, waarvan de twee buitenste nog origineel zijn. Naast het grafmonument van schrijver Anton Bergmann van 1874 bevinden er zich enkele merkwaardige grafmonumenten ontworpen door gekende architecten als E. Careels (sarcofaag van de familie Verberckt-Eyskens) en J.B. Van Bouchout (graf van de familie Avontroodt en Vos).
