The Packard TA was the first purpose built truck by the Packard Motor Car Company of Detroit, Michigan, and built in 1905 only. It carried a payload of 3 tn. sh. It was powered by the same two cylinder, four stroke engine of 348 c.i. (6030 cc)thatg was used in the Packard Model G private car. A.L.A.M. rating was 24 HP. Transmission, drive shaft and rear axle came from the Model G, too, and were combined with chains to the rear wheels. The Packard TA had a wooden frame armed with iron, and wooden coachwork. In 1905, about 40 of these vehicles were built. There is no known truck manufacture by Packard in 1906-1907. A successor came in 1908 with the TC series with 4 cylinder front mounted engine. There is no Series TB.
