This category is an image set. It should contain only images that have the same style, and should have a parent category that is purely topical.
This file has (at least) the following names:

This category exists to sort a large set of graph images with a similar design. Virtually all of them are by Tomruen (gallery).

Most of these used to be in umbrella categories like Polytopes, Polyhedra or Polychora.
They are all here now, except those in 7-polytopes and 8-polytopes. The more than 5000 files in these two categories seem all to be graphs of this kind.


There is a huge number of duplicates.

To do edit

  • Sort by number of vertices (compare Graphs by number of vertices)
    • Sort by graph, so the images in one category differ only in the color of their vertices (like this and this) or by orientation (like this and this)
      • Sort by exact equality (like these files), find the one with the best name (or a new name) and delete the duplicates
  • sort by symmetry (like n-fold rotational)
  • make clear what the vertex colors mean — red seems to stand for one vertex of the original polytope, orange for two (but this file suggests otherwise)

How edit

There seem to be around 6000 files of this kind (most of them in 8-polytopes), so the only feasible way to sort them is with a bot.

It would be easy to count the vertices and edges (circle and line elements in the SVG code), and not very complicated to determine the actual graphs.
(This file has duplicate edges, and some may have duplicate vertices.)

In which geometrical categories (like "A3 of bitruncated 5-cube") the remaining graphs should go can be automatically determined from their names and those of all the duplicates.
(This is one of the reasons to wait with the deletions.)

Suggestions edit

  • unify the design, so that there are only SVGs with big vertices like this — as opposed to this, this or this. (Renderings like this one could also be replaced.)
  • unify the naming system
  • Duplicates should not be deleted randomly, to keep renaming confusion to a minimum. At the moment nothing should be deleted.
  • After duplicates are deleted the old names can still be used, thanks to redirects that are automatically created. So nothing has to be changed in the articles where these images are used. It will be necessary to keep the CommonsDelinker from replacing the old names.
