Category:Simon Pantin I

English: Simon Pantin I (1680-1728) — of a Rouen dynasty of goldsmiths hailing from Upper Normandy, France — London goldsmith and plate-worker, of the "Peacock," St Martin's Lane, City. Son of Isaiah Pantin II and Sarah Barefoot; husband of Martha Pantin; the father of Abraham Pantin, Mary Martha Pantin, Lewis Armand Pantin, Isaiah Pantin, Elizabeth Buteux, and Simon Pantin II. Entered his name at the Hall in June 1701. In 1717, he moved to Castle Street, Leicester Fields. He died in 1728, and was succeeded by his son — Simon Pantin II, who entered his name in February 1829 and removed in 1731 to Green Street, Leicester Fields. Numerous examples of the Pantins' work bear the mark of a peacock with his tail outspread over the initials. On his father's death, Lewis Pantin remained in Castle Street, but adopted for his mark a globe above his initials.
