Historic tree believed to have been the tree at which an old shoe was placed for exchange of messages by Portuguese seafarers in the 16th century. One of South Africa's Champion Trees, declared as protected under Section 12 of the National Forests Act of 1998 by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
