Category:Tram transport in Freital

English: The first service of trams between Plauen and the villages in the Döhlen Basin, now Freital ran on 7 October 1902. The tram car number 309 of the „Berolina type“ with electrical power carried overhead, conveyed the first passengers on this line from Plauen to Deuben. The electric power was supplied by a nearby coal-fired power station „Kraftwerk im Plauenschen Grund“. The tramway line was part of the Dresden tramway network. It was operated with two-axle tram cars, which were gradually replaced since 1967 by Tatra T4 trams. These were too heavy for the worn out tram rails and needed too much electric power. So the tramway line was closed on 7 May 1974 and converted to Ikarus diesel bus operation.
