This kind of treasure cabinet, intended for Antwerp collectors, contained in its drawers and secret compartments various objects of art and curiosity (drawings, minerals, jewels, coins and medals, shells). This one, decorated by Frans Francken the Younger, is composed of twelve panels illustrating a passage of the Bible which tells several moments of the life of the prophet Daniel, successively wrestling with the king Persian Cyrus, the priests of the god Bel (or Baal) and the dragon venerated in Babylon, whom he kills by smothering him with meatballs. Made between 1623 and 1625, at the time of the artist's maturity, it is one of only two known examples of treasure cabinets decorated by Frans Francken the Younger. Exceptional work, unique in France, it is the true masterpiece of the prestigious Marcel Puech collection, donated to the Calvet museum in 1986. edit
