Category:US National Archives series: Construction and Launching of Ships, compiled 1900 - 1944

Author Unknown or not provided
Title Construction and Launching of Ships
Description
  • Scope and content: Photographic prints, 8"x10" and smaller, of the construction progress, launching, and occasionally, the sea trials of navy ships. The photographs seem to have been made by the Navy Yard where the ship was constructed or by the manufacturer and submitted to the Bureau of Construction and Repair. Some photographs for which negatives were received were assigned CR or BS numbers, and the negatives are in the 19-N negative file. The envelopes and binders are labeled with the classification or hull number and name of the ship. There is generally one envelope for construction progress, and there is another for launching, and a third for sea trials. On appropriate envelopes the date of receipt of the prints and the CR or BS (19-N-) numbers, if they have any, have been noted. There are binders for German destroyers and submarines and British destroyers.
