English: Waimate was an iron fullrigged ship built in 1874 by J. Blumer & Co., Sunderland for British Eastern Shipping Co., Liverpool with her first name Hindostan. Her dimensions were Length: 219.6 ft (66.9 m). Width: 35.1 ft (10.7 m). Depth: 20.6 ft (6.3 m). and 1156 GRT, 1123 NRT. Rigged with skysails. Sold 1875 to New Zealand Shipping Co., London, and was renamed Waimate. Sold 1896 to G.A. Lindblom, Åbo, and was renamed Valkyrian. Reduced to barque-rig in circa 1897. Sailed 1898 from Newcastle, NSW, for Iquique and was never heard of again.[1]
