  • The compound was an Internment camp created by the Japanese military during World War II, to group foreign civilians living in Northern China. The 'Civilian Assembly Center' was a former American Presbyterian mission compound.
  • These Allied civilians included British, Canadian, American, Australian, Belgian and other citizens — and were held for 3 years, until the American troops liberated them on August 12, 1945.
