Category:Zeus temple turned into basilica in Cennet ve Cehennem

At the top of the sinkhole to the south are the remains of a temple to Zeus Olbios or Zeus Korykios from the third century BC. The temple was built in Doric order with two columns between the antae. On the smooth ashlars of the north wall are 130 names of priests from Hellenistic and Roman times, including Archelaus, son of Archelaus. According to Serra Durugönül, the father is Archelaus I of Cappadocia, to whom after 25 BC Chr. Augustus transferred parts of Rauen Cilicia together with the priesthood. If so, the priests can be roughly dated, since they can be assumed to have held office for one year. To its west, remains of a polygonal wall can be seen, the enclosing wall of the inner temple area. In the 4th or 5th century, the temple was converted into a Christian basilica, using much of the original stonework.
