Category and Gallery Page

Do we actually need both a Category page and a Gallery page for every single breed?

I added categories for some breeds because Category:Dog breeds and Category:Dogs are big categories. With breed categories it is possible subcategorise many images into subcategories, where they are easier to find than in big categories with hundreds of members. Now it is also possible to categorise many images that were not categorised in any categories, without cluttering the large supercategories. /82.212.68.183 20:55, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Ok , i understand what you are saying now... I only asked because i got told not to create category pages but to make gallery pages instead , of coarse that wasn't in reference to the dog breed pages but i wasn't sure.. I was just curious.. Seems to me that we need only the category pages, because you can just edit the photo to put it into the correct category, whereas to put it into a gallery page (or article), you have to edit each gallery/article page in which it might belong. There are tons of photos that are in one place or the other, which could be confusing. So much work to do! Elf 05:34, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

moving images

Can most of the dog images be removed from the this category if they can be placed in the appropriate breed category instead? Or if they are already in the approprate breed category can they be removed from the main dog breeds page? There is way to many pictures in this category and it is hard to navigate to find the category pages themselves.. For instance when i click on the letter I for pages starting with I , all i am getting is images and not any the category pages themselves.... I am up for the task of moving images but want to make sure it is ok before i do so..--Ltshears (talk) 00:32, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Well i haven't heard from anyone so i am going ahead and start moving images to the appropriate breed pages. i really don't feel it is necessary for all of these images to be in category:Dog breeds if they are already in the right breed category.. --Ltshears (talk) 19:43, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. This is for most images a temporary category. Users like me who do not know the breeds, put dog images probably here or at Category:dogs. You did well to move the images to lower breed categories and you may do so in the future as well. See e.g. at Category:Dogs the mention: "Hidden category: Categories requiring diffusion", which is a request to move as much images to lower categories.
