Of course, seeing these, one might say that the difference is obvious. Face-wink.svg Blue Elf (talk) 01:51, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

I don't see a clear difference between fishing boats and fishing ships. There is obviously a difference between small fishing boats and big ocean trawlers, but what exactly is a ship and what is a boat? It seems there is quite a bit of confusion in the categories. I suggest that the two categories be combined into Category:Fishing vessels. Blue Elf (talk) 09:24, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

  • A ship has a deck, a boat hasn't. Talk to a sailor, he will tell you :-). Estrilda (talk) 21:58, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
Interesting definition, but neither English Wikipedia nor a Norwegian official dictionary seem to quite agree with it. English Wikipedia's articles Ship and Boat are fairly vague about the difference, even though the ship article has a section on the nomenclature of the word. The dictionary simply states that a ship is a bigger vessel, and a boat is a (small) watercraft. There still seems to be quite a bit of confusion about the difference(s), it is evident in the categorizing of the images. I still think it would be better to combine the fishing vessel categories here into one category (with subcategories by country and so on) for fishing vessels, unless a fairly precise definition can be found. For people living in the neighbourhood of the sea the difference between fishing boats and fishing ships is found in the fact that at least the size differs. Fishing ships are able to store the fish in a hold, fishing boats in a well. I recreate the category, because otherwise small fishing boats without description will appear in category Fishing ships. --Stunteltje (talk) 06:57, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
