Renaming

edit

Look this edit. The catname is “Velletri Pallas (Louvre Ma 464)” -->File:Velletri Pallas... The flickr number is more important than the date in the filename. Because the date is in Exif, in the variable date and the source link. And here, the location of the object should stand behind, the objectname first. Renaming when files still have the same description and/or category

edit

Today there were 20+ files that all had the old description. In my opinion the description and the category must be correct before a file can be renamed. So the user that wants a file to be renamed has to do that first. Sometimes I see files with no author or description at all.. I don't do requests like that? If I see all that incomplete requests, I want to push 'decline', but maybe other filemovers think different about this? - Regards from the Netherlands, - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 10:30, 25 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Sounds reasonable to not rename such files but claryify the situation first. However, in clear cases i add the description by hand after renaming - but rarely. --Steinsplitter (talk) 15:23, 11 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Participate in the vote & discussion on the proposed File naming guideline

edit

Participation has been relatively low and it's becoming stale despite of it not being clear whether or not the draft will be adopted. This relates to file renaming in that this would be required less often since people have a guideline on how they and others should name files.

Commons:File naming – discussion and vote on this is here at VillagePump/Proposals.
