calling for discussion edit

I added Category:Stations on the Eglinton Crosstown LRT and Category:Eglinton Crosstown LRT to this category. Subsequently, another contributor removed them.

I'd like to call for a discussion as to whether they are appropriate categories for the site of a future station on the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, and the future site of the maintenance and storage facility for its rolling stock. I think they are appropriate categories, but, for all I know, I could be convinced otherwise, if the reasons why they weren't were articulated. Geo Swan (talk) 16:53, 17 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

It's okay - you can name me (no need to refer to "another contributor"), but thanks for your politeness. This category pertains to a former Kodak plant, not a future TTC facility. A good hint, in my opinion that this category should not be a subcat of the LRT category is that the new carhouse would presumably not be a derelict building. There is even a historic photo in here showing all the buildings (now demolished) that have nothing to do with the LRT. Once we have media related to the future LRT carhouse (which at this point I suppose would only consist of public domain/freely licensed sketches, maps or designs), we'd create a category for it, and arguably that category would be a subcat of this one (or vice versa), but that doesn't mean they are the same thing (esp. since I am guessing the carhouse/maintenance facility will not be called "Mount Dennis Kodak plant", although some of those words might make it into the name of the new facility, assuming it doesn't just get named "Eglinton LRT Carhouse"). If you're anxious to get it started, I'd create a category for the new carhouse/maintenance facility (using whatever name the TTC is currently using for it), make this a subcat of it and rename it "Former Mount Dennis Kodak plant". I'd also create a separate cat for those images of Building #9, which is a designated heritage building in its own right and will remain standing IIRC.

The station category is even less relevant, in my opinion, because IIRC the station isn't even entirely located on the Kodak lands. Also, we typically would not categorize a larger entity in a category tree for TTC stations just because part of a station may be located there (for example Category:Union Station (Toronto) and Category:Toronto Eaton Centre are not included in Category:TTC stations, although the categories pertaining to the specific stations are.)

Anyway, those are my thoughts for what they are worth. Let me know what you think. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 18:04, 17 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
