Merging with Category:Living people edit

I do not agree with this merging and with the reason that was given: "Unlikely that we will find birth years for people on images here".

  • First, the only chance we have to get the birth date of those people is to tag them with "birth date missing"
  • Second, as those people are still alive, there is no reason to believe their birth date will never be known.

Keeping it as a separate category will encourage users to find out when those people were born. — Xavier, 13:44, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Wouldn't it be preferable to do that at Wikipedia? Has there been any recent activity? -- User:Docu at 13:45, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Of course it can be done on WP, but then the birth date would have to be specify here since it is missing. This category may be a hint that the missing birth date may be found on WP. As for the recent activity, I did put several categories in here but it's difficult to say whether files or cats have left this category recently (is there a tool for this kind of query?) — Xavier, 14:11, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
I hadn't noticed that it was created just recently. Please excuse. As you are using it, I withdraw my request. -- User:Docu at 16:00, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Actually, this cat was used long before I created it. Files and cats using {{Lifetime}} without mentioning both the birth year and the death year are automatically categorized here. — Xavier, 16:22, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Maybe we should convert the uses of this template to standard categories. -- User:Docu at 07:04, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Personally, I find it quite handy, as with a few keystrokes I can add up to 4 cats and a defaultsort to new categories. But I don't mind if someone changed it to standard cats afterwards. — Xavier, 22:51, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
