On June 28, 2012, Polish Central Archives of Historical Records (Archiwum Główne Akt Dawnych) in cooperation with Association "Archivum Patriae" and Wikimedia Polska started releasing scans of old historical documents and manuscripts. So far over 1000 scans (list) have been uploaded to Commons.
The driving force of the cooperation from the Central Archives and "Archivum Patriae"'s point of view is to make these documents as widely used in Wikimedia projects (and not only there) as possible. Although all of the scans are in the public domain, please always provide information about the source of the documents and a proper description of them.
At present the scans are provided by members of "Archivum Patriae" and uploaded manually by User:sp5uhe from Wikimedia Polska and User:Lukasz Truscinski from "Archivum Patriae". The scans are of high technical quality (proper color adjustment, no geometrical distortion, neutral white lighting) and have relatively high resolution (2000 px on longer side). The scans definitely do not need any additional technical corrections.
- Categorisation: Currently, the scans are all uploaded to the Category:Documents from Archiwum Główne Akt Dawnych - they should also be added to other relevant categories.
- Description: Please, translate the descriptions of the scans into other languages; since a number of the documents concern international affairs of the Kingdom of Poland, they might be interesting to people from other countries, too.
- Use and reuse: Please, use the pictures in Wikipedia(s) and sister projects whenever it is applicable - the more widely used, the more probable is that the cooperation will be continued.
- Proofreading in appropriate Wikisource.
