  Comment, this request was originally created in April 2011, but it was posted on Commons:Bots/Requests in September 2012. Trijnsteltalk 14:04, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You're right! But now there are different opportunities... take into account that I changed my scope, from "my uploads" to "it.wikisource uploads". Presently I'm very interested into using Book and Creator templates as main shared data storing place for books and authors. When I posted first request, I was interested about much simpler issues. See too User talk:Jarekt to understand my new interest. Alex_brollo Talk|Contrib 15:34, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

Not sure if I my editcount is long enough to write here, but I would like to state that Alex is a very skilled and experienced (bot) user in it.source, has accomplished many tasks with his scripts and I don't remeber any issues or (big) mistakes made with the bot. It is crucial for it.source community to better understand and cooperate with Commons (in terms of content AND metadata), so I hope Alex's request will be satisfied. --Aubrey (talk) 09:59, 1 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Aubrey about assessment of Alex's experience, and there is a lot of work to be done with cleaning templates related to Wikisource uploads. I think that at this point Alex should do a test run of 20-50 edits, before we can discuss it further. --Jarekt (talk) 02:45, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Really, I already run a test, since I had the opportunity to help Judithcomm after her request here about a tedious work. See Special:Contributions/Alex_brolloBot for the list of edits. --Alex_brollo Talk|Contrib 18:11, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Can you give an example of "Posting requests for renaming/deleting groups of files"? That sounds much more dangerous than editing the description file or removing a category. --99of9 (talk) 06:34, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea! I've just a list of B/N jpgs to remove, since better png have been uploaded and used as book illustration. I'll search for them and I'll tag them for deletion. --Alex_brollo Talk|Contrib 10:01, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
How's this going? I haven't seen any further bot contribs. --99of9 (talk) 10:23, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I apologyze for my temporary vanishing. I'm interested into a bot flagging here - but I'm discovering so many interesting features of data management (a big thank to friends working into wikitech-l!!) that this project has no more a very high priority. So, I launched Alex brolloBot a couple of times, it run much more than 50 edits, then I put myself into a "wait state" to see what would happen. Now, I'll take a look to my old request, and if the bot has been flagged I'll begin to move it .... if not, I'll go again in "wait state". I'm far from being into a hurry.... :-) --Alex_brollo Talk|Contrib 23:42, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't quite understand "Now, I'll take a look to my old request, and if the bot has been flagged I'll begin to move it". But my main point is: I cannot support this whole application unless you also show us examples of "Posting requests for renaming/deleting groups of files". Otherwise we could approve only the categorization changes. --99of9 (talk) 23:51, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  Comment I think there is a little disconnect between description of bot tasks at User:Alex brolloBot and here and the test runs:

The two tasks demonstrated by the bot were were done just fine. However those two tasks do not seem to illustrate the range of capabilities of the bot, so it would be good to see some examples of creating or fixing of {{Book}} templates (and possibly {{Creator}} templates) and tasks related to "renaming/deleting groups of files". --Jarekt (talk) 16:05, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Are there going to be any test runs related to requested tasks? --Jarekt (talk) 21:55, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The first run "deletion nomination job" has been not so hard, since files had been uploaded by a single user. Neverteless I felt the need to a "preprocessing step", to verify a globalUsage==0 for each page and to get a list of creators. I'm writing and testing (as an exercise) some simple personal scripts to run this control: see User:Alex brolloBot and feel free to comment into talk page. --Alex_brollo Talk|Contrib 22:58, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
@Jarekt: you are right! But I'm so busy while exploring javascript and djvu text layer management that I almost forgot these interesting projects. Presently, I'm going to suggest some change in our it:MediaWiki:Proofreadpage_index_template, just to align its fields perfectly with {{Book}} and to avoid data redundance; then, many {{Information}} templates could be conberted into well-filled Book templates. By a bot.... or a javascript tool :-) --Alex_brollo Talk|Contrib 23:08, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
next work, after a bief discussion with User:Jarekt and followih his suggestion:
obtaining a list of all it.source nsAutore pages;
to search for a personal category here;
to read wikicode searching for a "{{Creator|" string;
if there's no "{{Creator|" string, to add {{Creator possible}} in the top of the page. I launch the bot with a 120s throttle. --Alex_brollo Talk|Contrib 19:10, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Feedback needed
I feel a little bit discouraging to have no feedback/comments/criticism after hundreds of test bot edits. Am I waiting for feedback into the wrong page? --Alex_brollo Talk|Contrib 15:13, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You also have to check for "{{creator|" string since occasionally people use that, as in Category:Jacopo Sannazaro. Otherwise it seems fine. --Jarekt (talk) 22:30, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As I told, my interest is to work by bot around data relationships between it.wikisource and Commons - nothing more than this. So, I (by bot) listed items into ns0 of it.wikisource (Silvio Berlusconi is an author of it.wikisource texts: see it:s:Autore:Silvio Berlusconi), I followed the link to Commons (usually poinging to Category), I read text of Category page and I added the Creator possible template when there was no Creator template. So, a it.wikisource user following the link is encouraged to evaluate the issue, and to refine manually, case by case, the Commons-Wikisource data sharing and alignement (sometimes simply replacing the Creator possible with a Creator template, in other cases creating a lacking Creator: page or simply deleting the Creator possible template). The whole work has been done, obviously, with scripts "ad hoc". --Alex_brollo Talk|Contrib 11:37, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Unless there are further objections, I propose to approve this soon. Speak now. --99of9 (talk) 05:17, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Approved --99of9 (talk) 23:44, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
