- Info The Monarch butterfly migration is one of the World's natural wonders. The monarchs overwinter in Mexico in a number of areas covering about seven hectares in total. The butterfly density is said to range from 10-50 million butterflies per hectare. Most roost in oyamel fir trees. If it's a sunny day, they sun themselves on bushes and fly off in search of water.
