- Info Basile has uploaded a lot of potential FPs lately and he could probably do with some help getting through them! This one drew my eye because it is a high-quality picture of a non-Christian religious building which I guess we could do with more of at FPC. Although the temple is the main subject, I really like the composition as it is with the dramatic stormy sky - the light and atmosphere are pretty special. created by Basile Morin - uploaded by Basile Morin - nominated by Cmao20 -- Cmao20 (talk) 16:31, 20 August 2020 (UTC)

- Comment A bit too much blacks and clarity, isn't it? --Cart (talk) 16:39, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose Yes it's too much. I know Laos skies can be covered but they don't look this dark - Benh (talk) 17:08, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
- Support It is a faithful reproduction of the sky that day, @W.carter and Benh: believe it or not. And to be honest, I rarely saw such dark clouds so close over my head. Just to remember, this is how black the clouds can be here sometimes (not everyday).
- Now, for the little story: I did not plan to take pictures that midday afternoon. I had my camera with me just like I had my passeport too. I left the restaurant and discovered it, then instead of going straight to my hotel to avoid rains, I could not resist and was attracted by the view. A large bunch of very diverse images shot immediately before are with me, including that shot taken at 14:38, less than three minutes earlier. Why would I invent this scenery seriously? (I even have ugly flowers in front of a bank, lol , since I shot everything). I may upload the raw file (which is voluntarily underexposed) and you will check by yourself. Thanks a lot for the nomination -- Basile Morin (talk) 17:48, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
- I have no problem with the clouds, I've seen similar myself. I'm more concerned with the bottom half of the photo (structures and trees), they look too processed. --Cart (talk) 18:48, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
- You are usually pretty conservative, so I'd tend to believe you. But here even the trees show symptoms of clarity gone overboard (edit: or whatever processing, maybe the blacks, as mentioned by Cart). - Benh (talk) 19:41, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Benh, W.carter, and King of Hearts: I've reduced the whites and the shadows. Here is the original RAW file before perspective correction, light adjustment, crop and denoising. This image was uploaded for the photo challenge "HDR" of this month, and I think my take was honest. It's not easy to process such images with high contrast, because the eyes see more than the camera. My intention was to reveal an accurate representation of the scenery, as realistic as possible. Unfortunately technology is not magical, and you can't take such a sky without blown highlights, or without special tricks like HDR, since the parts in the shade are too dark. This is also a temple with shining golden painting. Any different processing is welcome, but no process at all is not fair -- Basile Morin (talk) 04:00, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose over processed and over saturated. And since when is how many FPs someone has a criteria for having more promoted? Seven Pandas (talk) 23:49, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
- It's not. I was just paying Basile a little compliment because I noticed that a lot of his recent uploads would stand a good chance at FPC. Cmao20 (talk) 01:19, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
- Support Very well-composed, and I like the drama of the scene. With a sky line that, I'd be running to shelter! -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:07, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

- Weak oppose The clouds to me aren't dramatic enough to offset the darker areas of the bottom, and I find the trees sort of randomly block aspects of the temple to the point that I would not support if the temple had been intended to be the subject). Daniel Case (talk) 14:22, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
