Comment Please dont compare a nomination with another with banal comments. This is not the same person or the same race. People should not be compared to each other, much less compare with another nomination. If this is the way to go, we end up comparing peoples or places selecting them only by color like facebook comments, rather than choose something deeper. I invite you to research the story behind each picture. In this case Wayuu people. Thanks --The Photographer (talk) 17:59, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm; my comment may be very brief as I too a non native English speaker like you. But "interesting" is a common word which can be used to represent all the collective properties that make a subject/work "wow". "Interestingness" is the word Flickr use to call its secret algorithm that is used to fetch the explored pictures.
What make the other subject/picture more interesting to me? 1. Definitely her older age. Children and elders always catch our eyes than the middle-aged. 2. Spontaneous expression compared to the rather "posed" look here. I prefer to compromise on composition for "real" expressions, well-caught. 3. Composition. Here it looks you are too close to her with your 50mm. people feel upset when others approach too close to them; so little chance for a natural expression. That's why street/candid photographers always prefer longer lens.
"banal/facebook comments" and "invitation to research the story behind each picture" Sigh. It was my passion and I had spend a lot of time in collecting and researching on social documentary photography. Now I have not much time; not much active in such things.
Conflict in opinion: I see a CIO in many of your comments and acts. What is the difference in this picture and the picture by you? Both are portraits of people from different culture and geographically different part of the world. So both are useful for sociologists. One posted by the photographer himself; but whether it make any difference. How one become self promoting and other not? Why I can't document India; but you can do it for people of Venezuela? I think that the shadow show a interesting look in this picture (talk)
  • I think this image could and should be salvaged. The detail is excellent and the expression charming. It is just the lighting. Saffron Blaze (talk) 23:17, 31
