Commons:Graphics village pump/August 2012

Are transparent-background PNG graphics necessary for Commons files?

I don't see the advantage of these over images which provide the ideal background instead, given that the background seen appears to be user dependent — but I may be wrong in my assumptions. I think it depends on the image content; if the background is irrelevant (e.g. left image), it can be made transparent. However, if it's a graph or drawing with many colours (e.g. right image), it's better to make the background the appropriate solid colour, otherwise, some lines may disappear when overlaid on a background of a similar colour. cmglee (talk) 10:04, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

Regenerating 100px thumb of Zeichen_282.svg

Wrong

Hi! The Image:Zeichen_282.svg's 100px thumbnail is displayed wrongly (just a black disk instead of a traffic sign). Therefore, I wanted to regenerate it. However, suggested link [1] does not help. Not rendered animated gif

Rendering of .svg problem

Hello, recently i drew the map of parliamentary election districts of Goergia (File:Georgian parliamentary election, 2012.svg) but it gives error durign thimbnail generation - Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination. New free fonts for Wikimedia's PNG renderer

Is there an ability to add ParaType family of fonts – PT Sans, PT Sans Caption (a wider version for the smallest font sizes), PT Sans Narrow, PT Serif and PT Serif Caption? They are all released under SIL Open Font License. Ain92 (talk) 22:50, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
