Partnership history

On 17 May 2013, the Chancellery of the Senate of the Republic of Poland and Wikimedia Polska Association established cooperation, permitting us to share with the Wikimedia global community the pictures taken by the Chancellery photographers.

The beginning of this project was, however, pretty adventurous. The impetus for the partnership was a deletion request regarding unclear permission of the Chancellery sent by e-mail in 2007, which was the basis of using the pictures copied from the Chancellery's website. The challenge was that the Senate website also contained pictures taken by photographers commissioned by the Chancellery and others taken by third-parties.

The current agreement allows us to upload pictures provided by the Office for Citizen Relations of the Chancellery in batches after their sources have been carefully scrutinized. Photographs are usually provided in maximum resolution, as originally shot by the photographers. As a result, we can often enjoy higher quality than that of photos available directly on the Senate website.

The first set of pictures was uploaded on May 25, 2013 and it consisted of the pictures of 83 senators serving the 8th term of office (2011–2015). In September pictures of 85 senators serving the 7th term of office were also added.

Subsequent batches are uploaded on a regular basis. They consist of pictures of senators, other Polish politicians, high-ranking public officials, academics, pictures taken at the conferences organized by the upper chamber, and others from visits by foreign politicians to the Polish Sejm & Senate buildings. In addition, the collection includes photographs of visits by the Marshal of the Senate and the Polish senators to other countries.

Technical and legal issues

The Chancellery has opted for the CC-BY-SA 3.0 PL license. The photos are uploaded with {{Polish Senate partnership}} and {{Cc-by-sa-3.0-pl}}.
