Wiki loves Monuments: are you up for the challenge? editWiki Loves Monuments is an international photo contest that promotes historical places around the world through Wikimedia projects (mainly Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons). Everybody can join in. By adding (uploading) your pictures and taking part in the contest, you help preserve Suriname's cultural heritage for all Surinamese and the rest of the world. From 1 to 30 September you can upload as many self made photos as you like of Surinamese monuments. Photos do not have to be made in September, you can also add photos from previous trips. In October the competition jury will judge the photos and pick 10 images that will represent Suriname in the international finals. The best three photos amongst the national entries will also win a prize. Why participate? editParticipating is fun! This contest is a great opportunity to bring your phone or camera, visit the monuments and take some pictures to show the Surinamese culture from your point of view to the rest of the world. It's a fun holiday activity and a great way to experiment with photography, get to know your country better and discover what photos you get recognition for. You certainly don't have to be a professional photographer to take pictures that are useful for Wikipedia. You can also upload images that you may have already taken during one of your trips to Suriname. By photographing and sharing heritage in your area, you can discover and learn more about Suriname's heritage. It is a great challenge to improve your photographic skills and of course you can win great prizes. More information about the international competition can be found at: www.wikilovesmonuments.org You can also upload other pictures you took during your holiday.
