Bridges

Bridges are one of the classic features of architecture, they can be found everywhere around the world and come in many variations. From wooden planks crossing a small rivulet, to highly artful constructions and wonders of construction methods over time. While we already have some great images from some (famous) bridges, there are always more bridges out there to be documented or shown at their best.

Angle, Square

As the curves and spiral topic is running for the second time with a huge participation, I thought a variation might also be a good idea. Angles and squares are usually not found in nature, but they are a basic feature of most architecture and can be found all around us. It could be a fun challenge that works indoor and outdoor.

Light tent (Lightbox photography)

Autumn leaf color

Surprisingly, we've had fewer autumn-related themes than any of the other three seasons, despite autumn being perhaps the most photogenic season. This should be run in either October or November, with a slight preference to November as the median peak foliage in the Northern Hemisphere is probably late October to early November, and we want to give people ample time to process and upload their photos.

Mining equipment

A variation of Commons:Photo challenge/2017 - August - Caves, Mines and Sinkholes. There is some slight self-interest in this from my side, as I work in mining but mining equipment, especially large ones, are very photogenic. One doesn't have to have access to a mine either to participate, Mining Museums provide ample opportunity, too.

Multiculturalism

Reading the reports of anti-Chinese responses to the coronavirus outbreak, has encouraged me to reflect on how Chinese culture and art has influenced fashion and design in other countries and how there are people of every nationality I can think of that have a Chinese ancestry and cultural heritage. In a current political climate of populism and nationalism, it would be good to see Commons run a challenge to illustrate multiculturalism to show how intertwined our cultures are.

I don’t know whether this proposal has already been discussed…Pipe organs can be found in churches, chapels and synagoges, in theatres and concert halls all over the world. But we would dramatically limit the range of themes if we reduce them to this "in everybody's reachability". The aim of our effort should not be the common denominator, but the common multiple. So if - as before - this theme is combined with a really widespread one, everybody should be given a mission for the selected month. BTW: musical instruments can not only be classified by it's handling, but also technically by the way the sound is generated.
