Image problems:
- The one upload that I can see is problematic is Image:Worksofaristotle01arisuoft.djvu. I uploaded it recently by mistake; I was under the impression that it was Image:A new translation of the Nichomachean ethics.djvu (which I have just uplaoded now). Note that I used {{PD-old}} which is not appropriate for the actual volume that I uploaded. Rather than request deletion, I had hope to establish that the one that I had uploaded was acceptable for Commons. I have tried in the past to work out the copyright of this series with limited success (see WS COPYVIO(2007-11) - Metaphysics and WS COPYVIO(2007-11) - Categories). The series is definitely PD in the US, by way of both {{PD-US-no-notice}} and {{PD-US-no-renewal}}, but its status in the UK is less clear, as it was compiled by w:W. D. Ross, who died in 1971, and the translators, s:Author:E. M. Edghill, A. J. Jenkinson, G. R. G. Mure, W. A. Pickard-Cambridge, etc. are all virtually unknown personalities, except that this series is hosted by
Project Gutenberg, available freely at Project Gutenberg , ebooks.adelaide.edu.au, classics.mit.edu, etc. The series was published between 1910 and 1931, meaning that all volumes are now 70 year old, which is typically the threshold for collaborative works. However all this is insufficient armchair research; I still havent verified that it is PD in the UK as well as in the US, so perhaps deletion is the right thing to do. - Note that due to find out about a Wikiversity reading group, I have been working on the copyright issues around these and created a table of publishing details for the volumes in the s:Works of Aristotle series. see v:Portal_talk:Reading_groups#public_domain_texts and s:Author_talk:Aristotle#wikiversity for details. - I have uploaded a number of patent images which do not have sufficient details. e.g. Image:US Patent 7913X color page1.jpg. These images are all public domain as {{PD-US-patent}}, which are being used on s:Wikisource:Patents where all the necessary details have been provided. They were not tagged correctly because Commonist did not have this tag in its list - I have started fixing these. Adding the dates and descriptions will require more effort. - The blank chess board tile (Image:Chess mg190 l.png) is my own wildly imaginative creation of nothingness. I have now filled in the fields.
The other chess board tiles and pieces on my user page are all acquired from the Google Book of Morphy's Games (1860) OCLC 2086470. The images are both {{PD-old-100}} and {{PD-1923}}. They were my first attempt at using Commonist, and my talk page was heavily templated at the time, so I went back and specified the publication details, including the OCLC which uniquely identifies the edition used, however the date (1860) and illustrator (not known; but under the direction of author w:Johann Jacob Löwenthal) hasnt been filled in. I will fix these shortly. John Vandenberg (chat) 23:44, 30 January 2008 (UTC) These images have now all been fixed. John Vandenberg (chat) 01:31, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
