English: "Crow's foot", First Omagh Church. This bench mark is located here - it is placed at base level at the left hand buttress at the entrance of the church 1407465.
Showing my age here but we used to do site surveys in the 1960/70s with dumpy levels and took a reference to marks like these. If we couldn't get one handy, we used to establish a TBM (temporary bench mark) for reference, it would have been somewhere we thought that was reasonably sure of not being removed. The OS map indicates several other such bench marks around the town, but they are becoming more difficult to locate and my guess that with modern satellite technology, they will become obsolete to requirements. |
